Driving carbon management through the supply chain

More than 50% of the average company’s carbon emissions typically arise from its supply chain. As energy and carbon prices rise, costs are passed on directly by suppliers. A programme to manage supply chain carbon offers the opportunity to limit these current and future cost liabilities. The process can also strengthen supplier relationships by working towards shared goals of reducing costs and carbon, whilst supporting CSR and sustainability objectives.Camco’s approach to Supply Chain Carbon Management (SCCM) is determined by the needs of its clients. We can work with you to develop a bespoke programme to meet your business needs and the nature of your supply chain. Our core offering centres around the analysis of supplier performance, identification of carbon ‘hot spots’ within the supplier base and then provides practical carbon management support. These elements will deliver greater carbon transparency in the supply chain, identify key areas for action and provide robust evidence to work with suppliers to drive out carbon and costs. What sets Camco’s approach apart is the ability to bring these elements together in a comprehensive programme. We can offer a simple reporting-orientated programme (using our secure online platform) to benchmark suppliers and aid supplier management or selection. However, we can also go beyond this by analysing the carbon profile of the supply chain in greater detail and identify key management actions, such as designing out ‘hot spot’ components and processes, adjusting procurement and logistics strategies or supporting supplier performance improvement. We can then deliver a support programme through you as the host, with the aim of establishing specific energy and carbon reduction plans and targets for key suppliers or processes. Reaching this position unlocks the opportunity to directly link energy and carbon emission reductions to your costs through supplier contract negotiations or even a supplier investment programme. The support we can offer to the supply chain draws on our 20-year track record in delivering energy and carbon management programmes across a wide range of business sectors. Our support can include providing good practice guidance, offering energy audits, the use of bespoke self-assessment energy opportunity tools or establishing automatic monitoring & targeting programmes (which should be at the heart of any energy management programme). We have developed a wide range of SCCM initiatives with leading companies and their suppliers including JCB, Morphy Richards, Crest Nicholson (AIMC4 project) and the Carbon Trust (brewing and dairy sector-wide initiatives).
