A Sustainable One Planet LivingĀ® Community
Camco worked with Crest Nicholson PLC and BioRegional Quintain Ltd to develop a scheme of 172 apartments plus office and community space.
The One Brighton design has been developed in accordance with the ten One Planet Living (OPL) principles in order to provide a comprehensive and lifestyle orientated approach to sustainability. A key aspect of One Planet Living is to achieve zero carbon emissions. An Energy Services Company (ESCO) has been established to operate and manage energy generation equipment on-site and to bulk-purchase REGO-certified electricity from renewable energy sources. It is the responsibility of the ESCO to maintain and upgrade the energy system, provide affordable sustainable energy to the community, and undertake ongoing energy/carbon monitoring with annual reports produced. Camco has played an integral part in this project:
- Securing the grant funding for the biomass boiler and PV system
- Developing and market testing a detailed ESCO business plan
- Establishing the ESCO including negotiations of services and fuel supply contracts
This is the UK's first project to be completed under the OPL Framework, established jointly by BioRegional Development Group and WWF. As such, the project has already become an example of best practice, studied by developers, researchers and consultants from across the UK and beyond.
