Mey Selections

Mey Selections see the carbon label as an exciting opportunity to support sustainable locally produced food.
We have undertaken an assessment of their honey and shortbread product lines working with manufacturers in Scotland aligned with the PAS 2050 standard for the Carbon Labelling Company. Through our work with these local producers, data has been collected on the production process and as a result, emissions reduction opportunities have been identifiedFollowing the PAS 2050 specification requires a greater detail of data gathering that is collected from multiple sources than a standard GHG emissions assessment. A multitude of materials are used within the production for these products and therefore an increased source of emissions factors had to be reported. The use of the Swiss Centre for Life Cycle Inventories (SCLCI 2007) led to a greater number of emissions factors being made easily available for the project which resulted in less time being spent researching Life Cycle Assessments of various products. Detailed data collection forms have also been produced which will help in the future for improved data collection processes. We have helped Mey Selections establish and reduce inefficiencies in the production of their products. This project also highlights areas where research into the current processes can be investigated for savings not only in emissions but also in expenditure.
